The final outcome of World War II:
More than 60 million victims

The whole difficulty seems to be that each new generation must find out for itself how dreadful, costly and futile war is
instead of being able to profit by the knowledge gained by other generations who have found out the truth to their great sorrow

Otis Hewett, US 4th Infantery division, 1944

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed

Dwight David Eisenhower

Introduction

My name is Rob, born in 1947 in Amsterdam, just after the end of the Second World War. Thanks in part to the involvement of my father, who served in the Dutch Army and my older brother, I developed a strong interest from an early age in the events that took place during that period. Over the years, I have built up and extensive collection of books and films, which eventually inspired the idea of sharing remarkable stories through this blog. Together with my son, I have been visiting historical sites in France, Belgium, Germany, Poland and the Netherlands for more than 20 years, trying to learn as much as possible about what happened there. I have selected several noteworthy events, researched them in greater detail, the result is the blogs presented above.

I would like to get in touch

My passion for World War II inspired me to write and share unique stories. My stories are based on multiple sources, including books, films and the internet.

Any comments? I’d love to connect with people who share similar interests, so we can learn from each other. I strive to constantly improve my blogs and any valuable input is more than welcome.
